The Weirdest Skincare Hack You’ve Never Heard of, But Need

I have had acne-prone skin my entire life.

Throughout middle school, I began actively attempting to treat my hormonal acne, but nothing seemed to work. I continued testing different formulas in high school and college, but saw no positive results.

However, during my free time in quarantine, I stumbled across a video that changed my entire perspective about my skin.

In this skincare review by YouTuber Alex Lynn Ward, I learned that the microscopic, raised bumps on my forehead weren’t going away because they weren’t actually acne.

It was likely a buildup of yeast on my forehead.

Sometimes characterized as “fungal acne” (which I know sounds gross), this set of tiny bumps on your forehead does not respond to normal topical treatments for breakouts because they are not real breakouts.

Scientifically named malassezia folliculitis, it is an overgrowth of yeast that hangs around the hair follicles.

I skeptically purchased the product that this vlogger recommended, because I was almost certain that this was the problem with my skin.

The product is called Nizoral, which is an anti-dandruff shampoo containing the active ingredient ketoconazole. You can get it at almost any local pharmacy, but I chose to purchase mine right off of Amazon for about $15.

The video says to rub the shampoo on your forehead as a face wash, and let it sit on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing. If you’re lucky, the bumps will shrink in size after the first use.

You can imagine my excitement when the package containing the shampoo arrived at my door.

I immediately ran to my bathroom to try it, and to my shock and excitement, the bumps really did recede after I rinsed it off.

I kept applying and rinsing it twice a day for the recommended 14 day period.

But if I’m being perfectly honest, my forehead was smooth with no trace of the bumps within three days of trying it.

This is not a sponsored post, but I really wish it was because I can’t stop raving over it. This product was truly a miracle in a bottle for me.

While sometimes the solution to your skincare problems may not seem obvious, and could be extremely out of the box, there is always a way to achieve the skin of your dreams.
