How To Master The At-Home Manicure

If you are anything like me, you understand the importance of a manicure. Call me crazy, but I truly believe that a fresh coat of nail polish can revamp your entire look.

While coronavirus may have closed some nail salons, I was determined to master the art of an at-home manicure. Here are some of the best products I found.

ManiMe Nail Stickers

I know what you are thinking: Nail stickers,- really?

I promise you they are different from the Sally Hansen sparkly pink stickers from sixth grade. This is the perfect product for a beginner who doesn’t feel confident in their painting skills,  or for those who don’t have time for a full manicure.

ManiMe provides gel nail stickers in a plethora of fun designs and a wide range of solid colors. With the snap of a few photos, ManiMe creates a custom decal to fit the curvature and shape of your nails. All you have to do is select a nail design, and your manicure will be sent to your door! Nail stickers are fool-proof and super easy to apply.

More importantly, 100 percent of ManiMe’s proceeds from their top 11 designs are donated to PBA COVID-19. According to ManiMe’s website, this is  a “Relief Fund, supporting beauty professionals affected by COVID-19, and the Movement for Black Lives Fund, supporting the fight against violence and oppression of BIPOC.” Here a few of my personal favorite designs.

Olive & June

Founder Sarah Gibson created Olive and June with the idea of giving women access to a beautiful manicure in the comfort of their own home. Her most popular products include the Poppy polish bottle handle, a large rubber grip that fits around the top of any nail polish bottle. The Poppy allows for a smoother, cleaner manicure and control over brush strokes.

If you love this product, you can splurge on The Studio Box. This box is a complete kit filled with eight must-have products including the Olive and June award winning cuticle serum and clean up brush. Olive and June also has free online Mani Masterclasses, in which you can ask questions, learn shaping techniques- and get a live tutorial in nail art.

Essie Longwear Polish

There is nothing worse than a manicure that chips only seconds after it has been applied. However, Essie has a solution with their longwear polish line. If you have seen the twisted bottles before, you likely know what I am talking about. Essie created this nail polish collection  in order to provide a gel experience that can be done in the comfort of your own home. With their gel couture top coat, your nails are guaranteed to be shiny, chip-resistant and fade resistant. I swear by this stuff!

Top and Bottom Coat

In order to preserve your manicure, top coat and bottom coat are essential. The bottom coat preps your nails for polish, while the top seals in the manicure and prevents your nails from chipping. When you are finished with your new manicure, just swipe on a quick top coat. This crucial step makes all the difference and provides a nice shine. For the best results using ManiMe, I would highly recommend their Max Top Coat. However, if you are sticking to regular polish, I recommend the Sally Hansen Double Duty a two for one base and top coat. I find this product works just as well as separate base and top coats.
