The “Y2K” early 2000s inspired trend is all the rage right now- and has taken over the fashion world.
Social media is full of celebrities, models and content creators styling Y2K pieces that are rooted in early 2000s fashion. From low-rise jeans to corset tops, Y2K is the new craze, especially this fall.
Low-rise jeans have made a serious comeback. Everyone has seen photos of icons such as Jessica Alba, Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera and more styling the lowest of low-rise jeans in the early 2000s.
This style was disliked for a while after the trend faded, but it has come back better than ever. Clothing stores everywhere such as Adika, Urban Outfitters, Free People and Princess Polly have released many styles of low-rise jeans, and influencers all over social media are wearing them. This trend will continue to be popular this fall, as the jeans can be easily paired with a simple top, but they are different from one’s everyday pair.
Flared Yoga Pants
Flared yoga pants are an early 2000s look that has come back and become very popular. When walking around on my college campus, I see flared yoga pants all the time. I have my own pair, and I wear them all the time to class as a simple and cute way to spice up a casual outfit in the fall. As a big athleisure fan, this is my favorite early 2000s trend. It is comfortable, easy to style and flattering on all body types.
Corset tops are extremely popular right now. What a lot of people don’t know is that they were a hit in the early 2000s. I personally love this trend – corset tops are so flattering and easily spice up a simple outfit. My friends and I own corset tops and can attest to the fact that they are our most flattering and worshipped pieces in our closets.
Another early 2000s trend is sheer tops with a bra underneath. This trend has come back, but better. Instead of layering studded bras underneath like J-Lo, most usually go with a simple, chic bralette like the one Kendall Jenner is wearing. Some believe this trend was a mistake in the 2000s, but I think it has very much improved. It is a chic way to style a plain top and dress up an outfit- perfect for going out in the fall.
Mini shoulder bags are back. Celebrities like Paris Hilton, Hillary Duff, Jennifer Garner and more rocked these purses in the early 2000s. I’ve always been a crossbody purse girl, but with the comeback of this trend, I am definitely going to add a mini shoulder bag to my closet. These purses are perfect for a night out with their small size and serve as the perfect accessory for virtually any outfit this fall.
With fashion, styles often come back. The early 2000s style is a classic that we grew up seeing in movies and on television, and it was only inevitable that the style returned. The Y2K trend is flattering and fun- these pieces spice up the simplest of outfits and will continue to dominate the fashion world this fall.
