Must-Have Winter Self-Care Products

*By: Alexandra Pollak*

With the weather finally cooling off and finals season quickly approaching, now more than ever it is so important to take care of yourself. Practicing self-care is as easy as developing a skincare routine or even putting some lip balm on your dry lips. As we are still phasing out of the COVID-19 pandemic, taking care of yourself and finding ways to adjust back to the new normal in cold weather is a must.

Here are my 5 winter self-care must-haves:

  1. A Really Good Lip Balm

Cold weather literally means chapped lips. To avoid peeling and painful lips, this is the time to invest in a good lip balm to put in every bag you use for those emergencies. There always seems to be a new trendy lip balm, (we all remember the EOS trend) but I personally love Carmex’s Classic Lip Balm ($6 Amazon). With a variety of scents to choose from, this lip balm is the perfect consistency and works like magic.

2. Fuzzy Socks

Is there really anything better than a chill night in wearing PJs and fuzzy socks? While most of them do not always complete an outfit, you can definitely get away with wearing them under tall boots. Fuzzy socks are sold at most stores nowadays, but I personally love the 2-pack from Target’s Universal Threads for only $7. They are super cozy and come in different color combinations.

3. Face Masks

As we continue to wear masks to protect against COVID-19 around campus, we all know that is guaranteeing acne breakouts. Piling drinking less water in cold weather on top of that is a skincare disaster. If you’re anything like me and don’t usually have the time every night to stick to a 20 minute skincare routine, using face masks twice a week could be the perfect solution. Glossier sells a mask combo pack for $40, containing one detoxifying mask and one moisturizing mask. This is one of my personal favorites, and I find it does a great job clearing up my skin.

4. Hand Lotion

Moisturizing is always important, but when your hands dry out and your knuckles start to crack, you will be in need of a good hand lotion. I always love when they are small enough to throw in a bag so I can use it even when I’m out all day. I love the O’keeffe’s Working Hands Hand Cream, and I usually buy it from Target for $6. It’s portable and somehow never seems to run out even though I constantly use it during the winter.

5. A Jade Roller

At first glance, this latest trend doesn’t appear to be the most helpful product. To my surprise, my jade roller made my skin so smooth and decreased puffiness. It’s a quick and easy to use product, and my personal favorite is the Rose Quartz Facial Roller from the Sephora Collection at Sephora for $20. While it is on the pricey side, the investment is worth it, as this product works magic.

Whether you have your go-to products established or are still on the hunt, I highly recommend all of the products listed above for all of your self-care needs this winter.
