The Scents on My Shelf…

By Amanda Ellman

I have to say that finding the perfect scent to spray on yourself and live in for the day is not an easy process. Smelling various perfumes in a matter of moments can be overwhelming. To make it a little easier for you, I have selected some of my favorites that are in my rotation at the moment. My friends always tell me that I have a signature scent that they really like. I love to experiment with perfumes, but I do have a select few that are my favorites. This list will give you perfect options that are not overpowering for someone who is a teenager or early 20s.

Santal 33 by Le Labo

The number one aroma on my list will always be Le Labo Santal 33. This is my super fresh go-to “signature scent” as my friends would say. It is iconic on the streets of New York City, where the Le Labo trend started. Santal 33 is the ideal scent that is easy to wear because it is not overpowering. It is perfect for a quick spritz on your way to class.

Another unique smell is The Noir 29, also by Le Labo. This is one of the best smells I have ever come across. It is amazing with hints of Bergamot and Cedarwood. This will stay with you throughout the whole day, which means it is a solid selection for someone who will be out and about.

Gypsy Water by Byredo

Clearly, I have a slight obsession with Le Labo, but I did come across another brand to add to my favorites called Byredo. I find their fragrances to be more feminine and floral than the last two I recommended. There are a few that I would recommend including Gypsy Water, Mojave Ghost, La Tulipe and Bibliotheque. This reliable brand offers a variety of perfumes when on the hunt for something new.

Melrose Place by Ouai

Next, from the haircare brand Ouai, the scent Melrose Place is a balanced floral rose perfume. I tend to use this more at nighttime as I find it slightly stronger. In fact, it’s the perfect scent for a date night!

Wood Sage and Sea Salt by Jo Malone

Some people might think this next brand is for an older generation, but I have picked out the light and airy scents for my age group. Jo Malone is a classic line that has a wide variety of smells. Wood Sage and Sea Salt and Nectarine Blossom and Honey are two fragrances that I found to be a solid option in my perfume rotation. Jo Malone has been around for a long time and can be easily found at most department stores.

Nude Silk by KKW

The last one on my current lineup is the KKW Nude Silk perfume. I am a big fan of KKW fragrances because I find them to be extremely feminine by incorporating fruity and floral combinations. This is by no means overpowering and can be the perfect scent to spray when you are rushing out of the house!

You cannot go wrong with any of the eleven perfumes on my list. Whether you prefer floral, woody or citrus scents, there are many options to choose from to find the perfect scent that suits you!

  1. Jo Malone is one of my favorites. I get headaches easily from strong scents and some of Jo Malone’s perfumes seem just right to me. I use English Pear, Rose, and I forget the name, something like Wildbluebells?
Santal 33 sounds like a pretty smell too. Thanks for your suggestions.
